How to request renewals
Requesting renewals for items you've borrowed via interlibrary loan is easy to do!
Please note that you can only request renewals for items you have actually checked out. In other words, if you have not yet collected the item after you received notification from ILL that it was available, you won't be able to request a renewal yourself. Contact the ILL office in that case.
To request a renewal for a checked out item:
- Login to your ILL account.
- Under the VIEW menu, click on the Renew Checked Out Items link. You will now see a list of checked out items showing the titles and due dates.
- Choose the item you wish to renew by clicking on the transaction number.
- Click on the Renew Request link at the top of the record.
What happens next?
We (Brandeis Libraries) send the renewal request on to the lending library. Sometimes it takes a few days to receive a reply from the lender.
Remember that renewals are at the discretion of the lending library and sometimes the answer is no, even though a renewal request has been submitted. We will try our best for you!
If the answer is no: You will receive an email saying that the renewal request has been denied.
If the answer is yes: You will receive an email with the new due date.
Note: You can only request a renewal once. Sometimes we receive books from libraries that will not allow renewals. This will be noted when you receive notification that an item is ready to check out, and will also be printed on the cover slip.
