Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I submit a reserve request?

A: There are three ways to submit your reserve list: email your list using LOUIS; email your list to the Reserves Department; submit a reserve list in person at the library's Loans & Returns desk.

Q: When should I submit my reserve requests?

A: As soon as possible. Deadlines for submitting reserve lists in order for the items to be available for the first day of the semester are: August 15th for the Fall, December 15th for the Spring, and May 15th for the Summer. Lists submitted less than 2 weeks before the start of the semester may experience delays in processing.

Q: What can I put on reserve?

A: We accept materials such as books, videos, and audio CDs for physical reserve, both library-owned and personal copies. We cannot put materials borrowed through Interlibrary Loan on reserve. Articles, e-books, book chapters, etc. should be uploaded and/or linked to your LATTE course.

Q: How do I check the status of a reserve request?

A: Go to the LOUIS catalog and click on the link for COURSE RESERVES. Search for your class by course number (e.g. ANTH 1A) or by the instructors last name. You’ll see a list of all the books and videos that are on reserve for the class.

Q: How do I put readings for my class on LATTE?

A: You can link to e-books and articles that are available through the library's online resources. Here are instructions for creating those links. You can upload and store electronic files to your LATTE courses, including reprints, chapters and pictures. Here are detailed instructions for working with your files in LATTE. Please take the time to review our copyright guidelines.

Q: How can I put videos in LATTE?

A: Instructions for requesting videos in LATTE are available in PDF format here.

Q: What if the library doesn't own a video I want to put on LATTE?

A: You should still submit a request to using the request form in the LATTE Videos block. Instructions are available in PDF format here.

Q: What if the library doesn't own a book/video/CD I want to put on reserve?

A: Send an email to reserve@brandeis.edu. Please include as much information about the item as possible (title, author, ISBN, edition). It is important to submit reserve purchase requests well in advance of the date they are needed in your class.

Q: Do I have to submit a reserve list every semester if I'm using the same books for the same class?

A: Instructors must make requests each semester they want the reserve materials to be available, even if they were used in past semesters and in the same course.

Q: Where are books and videos on reserve located?

A: Paper and hard copy reserves are located behind the Loans & Returns desk. Articles, e-books, chapters, and some video and audio can be uploaded and/or linked to via LATTE.
