Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I find out which books and videos are on reserve for my classes?

A: Go to LOUIS and click on the green Course Reserves tab in the middle of the page. Search for your class by course number (e.g. ANTH 1A) or by your instructors last name. You’ll see a list of all the books and videos that are on reserve for the class.


Q: Where are books and videos on reserve located?

A: All paper and hard copy reserves are located behind the Loans & Returns desk. Electronic reserves can be accessed through LATTE.


Q: How do I find the readings that my professor put on LATTE?

A: When your professor has shared readings in your LATTE course, they will appear listed in your course homepage in the course outline or under the Resources link in the Activities block on the right hand side on the page.


Q: How can I watch videos online in LATTE?

A: Only videos that your instructor has specifically requested for LATTE are available online. To view your videos, enter your LATTE course and look on the main course homepage for the LATTE Videos block. Click on the video you want to watch. You must be on the Brandeis campus and connected to the network via a network cable to view the videos.


Q: How do I check out a reserve book, video, or CD?

A: Bring the call number for the item and your Brandeis ID card to the Loans & Returns desk.


Q: How long can I use a reserve book, video, or CD?

A: Reserve books can be checked out for 2 hours. Reserve videos and CDs can be checked out for 4 hours. Reserve materials cannot be renewed.


Q: Can I take reserve materials out of the library?

A: All reserve materials must be used within the library. Library-owned reserve books may be taken out of the library 2 hours before closing. Reserve videos, CDs and personal reserve items cannot leave the library.


Q: Will I be charged if I return a reserve item late?

A: Yes. The fine is $1.00 per hour for late reserve items.


Q: Are all of the required and optional readings for my classes on reserve in the library?

A: No, only books and videos that your instructor has specifically requested for reserve.
