How to submit a reserve list
There are three ways to submit your reserve list:
- Email your list using LOUIS, the library's online catalog.
- Email your list to the Reserves Department.
-
Submit a reserve list in person at the library's Loans & Returns desk by downloading and completing the paper form (see link below).
- Retrieving the books from the stacks and submitting them with your completed form will allow us to process your reserve list more efficiently and in less time.
Requests are processed on a first in, first out basis. Please include a complete bibliographic citation and call number. We ask that you submit your list well before the start of each semester to avoid delays in processing.

Submit a reserve list via LOUIS
How to submit a reserve list via LOUIS
1. Search for materials using your usual search method (keyword, title, etc.).
2. When you find the item you want, click the "Add to My Shelf" link - you have the option of adding a note here but it is not required.

3. Repeat for additional books.
4. Click the "My Shelf" link to view your list of selected books.

5. From that list, select the books you wish to put on reserve. Click Save/Mail.

6. You don't need to change the default "Record format" and "Encoding" settings on the Save/Mail screen. In the Subject line, please include the course number. In the Name line, please type the instructor's name. In the Email Address window, enter reserve@brandeis.edu. If you would like a copy of this e-mail message for yourself (recommended), type your own email address in this window, separating the e-mail addresses with a comma. In the Text window you can include any special instructions for the reserve staff. Click the "Ok" button.

Your reserve request will be forwarded to reserve staff for processing. There is no confirmation screen that your message has been sent, which is why we recommend sending a copy of the request to your personal email address.
When to submit your list
The deadlines for submitting reserve lists in order for the items to be available for the first day of the semester are:
August 15th for Fall semester
December 15th for Spring semester
May 15th for Summer term
Submit your reserve list as early as possible. We process reserve lists in the order in which they are received. We will make out best effort to process your reserve list quickly, but we cannot guarantee same day service. To avoid delays, you should submit your list well before the beginning of each semester, particularly if you are including any reserve purchase requests.
Lists submitted less than 2 weeks before the start of the semester may experience delays in processing.
Check the status of your list
Before making assignments in class based on reserve readings, check to make sure your materials are listed in the Course Reserves catalog, ready for student use.
To verify that your physical reserve requests have been processed, you can look in the LOUIS online catalog within 2 weeks of the start of the semester.
Go to LOUIS and click on the green Course Reserves tab in the middle of the page.
Search for a class by course number (e.g. ANTH 1A) or by the instructor's last name.
You will see a list of all the books and videos that are on reserve for that course/instructor.
